POLAROID STORIES Written by Naomi Iizuka

Maria Markosov

STARRING:
Wallace Demarriá, Lance Drake, Reid Ewing, Lacy Fisher, Andy Fitzgerald, Wil Lowe, Sara Murphy, Cherie Price, Ashley Sawyer and Sarah Stringer

Performed at The Actor’s Playpen in Hollywood, CA.

ABOUT: Set in a desolate urban jungle, Naomi Iizuka’s powerful play POLAROID STORIES, a cult favorite, tells the real-life stories of street kids in an adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphosis.  POLAROID STORIES blends the real life stories of street kids and classical mythology.  The hearts of these characters beat as chaotically as the urban jungle they run to, as they seek camaraderie and refuge in the darkest most disturbing place on earth, the city streets.  Their language is a mix of poetry and reality, which makes the play powerfully intense, spellbinding, and a masterful piece of modern theater.

REVIEWS:

“The uninitiated will still be treated to an intensely raw display of emotion, sexuality and violence as 10 skillful young actors descend into Naomi Iizuka’s deep and dense exploration of the youthful psyche…Maria Markosov’s stark staging and sensitive work with the actors creates a depressing world, but one that is also irresistible in its desolate beauty.” – LA WEEKLY

“Every one of the young actors is a natural, falling into a tough, grammatically current realism: difficult to believe and painful to watch — playing vile, corrupted, ruined kids, doped and duped by society, humanity’s outcasts. Wallace Demarriá rules the terrific cast as G/Hades and Zeus; Wil Lowe, Lance Drake, Reid Ewing, and Andy Fitzgerald make up his remarkable court. Sara Murphy, Ashley Sawyer, Sarah Stringer, and the sensational Cherie Price as Persephone are scruffily superb on the distaff side…Director Maria Markosov handles a tough proposition with skill and daring, keeping her young actors on the top of their marks. This is a well-done horror story and cautionary tale, hard to like and impossible to ignore.” – BACKSTAGE WEST
