The Art of Time

Time has always been a challenge… time to do things, getting places on time, managing time, organizing time. Time just keeps going on. Even if I took the batteries out of all my clocks and watches, and never looked at my cell phone’s time, I’d feel it, I’d know it, day turns into night and into a new day. I will get tired. I will expire. Things will change and people will change. The inevitability of time versus my own resistance to it, the next great theatrical drama! The war rages on. And time is winning, time will eventually beat us all. But time is also a great healer…when we are down and there is chaos, time eventually will give us relief and give order to things. And then just as well we know, if we are happy and things are great, time will make those moments pass as well. Go with the flow or fight the beast! But the art of time is how we relate to it. And maybe our relationship with time is similar to our relationship to anyone or anything else. After all, we know time well. We know it will keep going, it won’t listen to us, it won’t stop, it won’t go faster, it will do just as it pleases. So there is only acceptance, grace, and using time in the best way to our best benefit. Think about your relationship to your time. How you want to use it, how you want to live with it. We only get so much time, we don’t even know exactly how much that is. But we should, we must always value it because our value and our own lives are only dependent on it. I spent so many days in my past being down on myself, and worrying about others, and now I know and feel deeply that I only spent time hurting myself, lowering my immunity, shortening my good times and lengthening dark times. It never occurred to me that I was my biggest abuser and that clocks were ticking and frowning at me. I shake hands with the second hand of the clock, and I say, let’s make peace and let’s make the best of it.
